Meaning Of Waheguru
In Bhai Gurdas Ji Vaaran (Panna 13) , Bhai Gurdas Ji says , "Vaheguru gurmantar hai, jap haumai khoe" , which means Waheguru (Vaheguru) is a mantar given by the guru, whose recitation removes egotism. In more simpler words, by reciting this mantra your ego will be dissolved.
Bhai Gurdas Ji further ellaborates the composition of Waheguru in Vaar 1, Pauri 49 as -
ਸਤਿਜੁਗ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਾਸਦੇਵ ਵਵਾ ਵਿਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ।
Satijugi Satigur Vaasadayv Vavaa Visanaa Naamu Japaavai |
ਦੁਆਪੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਹਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ।

ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਗੇ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗੀ ਪੰਚਾਇਣ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਵੈ।

ਚਾਰੋ ਅਛਰ ਇਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜਪੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਜਪਾਵੈ।

ਜਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਤਹਾਂ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੪੯॥੧॥

Which means that in satyug, Visnu incarnated in the form of Vasudev and "V" of Vahiguru reminds of Visnu. Bhai Gurdas ji further states that the true guru of dwapar yug is Hari Krishna and "H" reminds of Hari. In treta yug it was Ram and "R" Of Vahiguru tells us that rememberance of Ram will produce joy & happiness. In Kaliyug, Gobind is in the form of Nanak and "G" of Vahiguru gets Gobind recited. The recitation of all four ages absorb in the soul of the common man (Panchayan). By joining the four letters Vahiguru is remembered and the jiv merges in its origin.
Is Waheguru mentioned in Guru Granth Sahib Ji ?
In Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the word Waheguru ( both as Vahguru or Vahiguru) occurs in the hymns of Bhatt Gayand, who was a brahmin bard in the court of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. As mentioned above, the term Vahiguru also appears in Bhai Gurdas Ji vaaran.
Guru Granth Sahib Ji (Ang 1402) states-
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
Vaahiguroo Vaahiguroo Vaahiguroo Vaahi Jeeo ||
ਕਵਲ ਨੈਨ ਮਧੁਰ ਬੈਨ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੈਨ ਸੰਗ ਸੋਭ ਕਹਤ ਮਾ ਜਸੋਦ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਦਹੀ ਭਾਤੁ ਖਾਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
